West Pennard church in Somerset is typical of the style of Somerset churches. This church was the place of baptism, marriage and burial of many of my Talbot and Newport ancestors.

Croscombe Church, Somerset

Croscombe Church has many links to my ancestors going back to 1600 and possibly further. My great x5 grandfather James Chancellor was parish clerk from 1779.

Hebe Horler (nee Talbot)

Albert Vincent

On the right is 'uncle Alb' as he is called by my mum. He and his wife Mags Vincent (nee Talbot) adopted my grandmother Hebe when her mother died in 1919. Mags (as she was affectionately known or Cordelia Maggie to give her full name) was my nan's eldest half- sister through William Talbot's marriage to his first wife Mary Harper (my nan's was daughter of his second wife Emily Newport). This picture is taken at their house in Croscombe and the other person is Ted Talbot his wife's nephew brother. Ted was the son of Charles or Fred Talbot (we can't determine which) and was in the Canadian Air Force and flew bombers in the Second World War. Ted survived numerous missions including many over Germany but was sadly killed in a crash in Cambridge UK shortly after the war.

Thrupe Lane, Croscombe, Somerset

William Carver (my nan Hebe's grandfather on her mother's side) lived along this lane when the 1841 census was taken. I think my nan also lived here in the late 1920's with her adoptive family.

Talbot graves in Croscombe

The white stone grave on the right is that of my nan's brother James Eric Talbot and his wife Beatrice. The grave on the left is my nan's adoptive parents Bert Vincent (pictured above) and her eldest half-sister Mag's Vincent (nee Talbot).

West Street, Croscombe

My nan's father William Carver Talbot is recorded as living along this street in the 1891 and 1901 census returns with his family from his first marriage. In 1901 he was a widower.

Church Street, Croscombe

My nan's grandfather and grandmother, Frederick and Ann Talbot, are recorded as living along this street in the 1861 census along with her father William when he was an infant.

My grandmother and I

My nan, Hebe Horler (nee Talbot) and I pictured at my grandparent's golden wedding anniversary in 1987 at their home, Cocked Hat in East Knoyle. Seated on nan's lap is my cousin Katie's daughter who would be nan's great granddaughter.

Croscombe school outing 1924

Picture taken from the book 'About Shepton Mallet' whows my grandmother Hebe Talbot. She is the young girl in the front row third along in the little gery coat with the hooped socks. She is wearing the floppy hat which apparently got even floppier later than day when it rained.
