James Talbot 1910-1966
The chap on the front row on the far right is my nan's brother Jim Talbot. Jim was one of three of five children of William Carver Talbot's second marriage to Emily Newport to survive to adulthood, the others being my nan and Edward Talbot. Edward was however born in 1904 before William and Emily married and christened as a Newport. He later became Edward Talbot rather than Edward Newport. Two other children, Reg and Doreen died aged 14 days old and 7 years old respectively. Mother Emily died aged just 38.

Roll of Honour, Croscombe Church, Somerset
This roll of honour of those of Croscombe village who fought in World War One contains the names of Alb Vincent, my nan's adoptive father (her sister's husband - see other photos) and Fred and Charles Talbot, my nan's half brothers. Fred was a private in the 1st Monmouth Regiment, the same as Alb Vincent, and was wounded. Charles was a bugler in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

William Carver Talbot
Another view of the Vincent and Talbot graves in Croscombe churchyard (see page one pics). I understand that my great grandfather William Talbot is buried in an unmarked grave in the open grass area behind the next row.

Dulcote quarry in the 1920's
Many of my Talbot family ancestors were quarrymen, including my great grandfather William. My nan's uncle Edward Talbot was a young quarryman here in 1921 when he witnessed a colleague's death due to a rock fall. The poor man's skull was smashed in. His father William, I understand, was partially blinded, due to an accident whilst working as a quarryman. It was no doubt a very dangerous occupation. This photograph from one of the local quarries in the 1920's shows the environment that they worked in.

Connock family of Sparkford, Somerset
Pictured is Sparkford Church in Somerset. My great x7 grandfather on my grandmother's maternal (Newport) line, Thomas Connock, was rector here from 1689. He previously gained a degree from Oxford in 1681 aged 17. Thomas' son was Samuel and Samuel's daughter was Grace Connock who married William Ridout of Alford in Sparkford in 1808.

Thomas Connock of North Barrow, Somerset
The father of Thomas of Sparkford above was Thomas Connock who was variously clerk, minister and rector of North Barrow between 1653 and 1706 when he died. I believe that Thomas was the son of Nicholas Connock of Cornwall, a gentleman and former MP, and through this line can be traced connections to medieval ancestry.

St Lawrence Church, Cucklington, Somerset
Great x 3 grandmother Harriet Forward was baptised here on 10th October 1824. She married James Ridout at nearby Stoke Trister in 1845. Many of Harriet's Forward ancestors were baptised, married and buried here as were her maternal ancestors of families Baynton, Cross and Harding.

Croscombe Grand Annual Boxing Day Match
This is a photo of a picture on the wall at the George and Dragon pub in Croscombe. Showing in the centre half defence position with what looks like a mallet in hand is my nan's elder brother Jim Talbot (see above) and shown as acting as referee is my nan's brother-in- law and adoptive father Alb Vincent. I expect that this match took place around the same year as the Jubilee match with the photo above.
