Horler pictures part three

Pictures of people and places connected with the Horler side of my family. See also Talbot for some common links.

Matthias Tremeer Horler

My great grandfather Matthias Tremeer Horler in 1939 in what I believe is Home Guard uniform. He was a Royal Marine in WW1.

Matthias Tremeer Horler

Another picture of my great grandfather this time in 1940 but still in Home Guard uniform.

Dawn Wareham (ne Horler)

This is my mum pictured with her cat in Dinder in Somerset. The house in the background is Red Brick Cottages where they moved to from Sharcombe Farmn before then moving to East Knoyle.

Harry Horler and my sister and I

Grandad and my sister and I pictured at the wedding anniversary at Crocked Hat in East Knoyle.

Underhill, East Knoyle

Another picture of our grandparents former home in East Knoyle. Probably taken late 1970's this shows part of Grandad's fabulous vegetable garden. There was a small lawn and flowers but it was mainly land used for veg. The age of the old farm building was evident by the old clay pipes that we used to collect from the garden.

William Taylor Say and Mary Say grave

The grave in the centre with the two circles on top is that of William Taylor Say (died 1860) and his wife Mary (nee Hart) who died 1883. This is in Croscombe churchyard and in the row in front of their son Robert Say's grave.

Sharcombe Farm, Dinder

Another view of the farmhouse where my grandparents were from the 1930's until 1950 (something).

Mill Paddock, Long Street, Croscombe, Somerset

Robert and Harriet Say lived here in the early 20th century up to their deaths in 1924/5. Then Matthias and Minnie Jane Horler (nee Say) lived there with Minnie's sister Thurza Say. We don't know when Robert Say and his wife started living here as I thought they may have lived at teh Old Forge whilst he was a blacksmith. Also Thurza may have been living here with her parents before Matthias Horler and his wife moved in. Thurza was apparently well over 6 feet tall and remained a spinster.

Paradise House, Long Street, Croscombe, Somerset

Matthias and Minnie Horler moved here after Mill Paddock and probably started raising their family here. They took the house ober from Bob Horler. I believe though that they did not stay here because my grandad refers to being brought up near Radstock later on before he later returned to Croscombe and met and married Hebe Talbot.

Harriet Say (nee Rhymes)

Mt great x2 grandmother. probably taken at Croscombe in about 1918. She is remembered as one of those who fought the way wardens in the 19th century and saved the ancient cross in the middle of the village, see related documents.

Minnie Jane Say

My great grandmother Minnie, who later became a Horler, probably taken in the 1890s in her 20's.
