A view of the Blackmore Vale farmland towards Duncliffe Hill where the Hiscock's farmed in the 18th and 19th century.

At least three generations of Hiscocks between 1800 and 1900 are buried in the churchyard. Also buried here is Francis Rogers Gray (farmer) whose two daughters both married Hiscocks.

Grave of Francis Rogers and Emily Hiscock, Farnham

The grave to the left foreground of this photo with the arch top is that of Francis Rogers (died 1903) and Emily Jane Hiscock (died 1923) at St Laurence Church( great x 2 grandparents). The churchyard is not far from their farm which they had in the late 19th century. Also commemorated on the gravestone are their grandsons Walter and Francis Harris who were both killed aged 19 in World War 1 in France.

Rookery Farm, Farnham

This is Rookery Farm which was worked by Francis Rogers Hiscock in the late 19th century. It where my great grandfather, Robert Hiscock, was born and raised. The old farm building is seen behind the more modern barns. Francis was also involved in the timber trade at the time as was ideal based near Farnham woods in the Chase.

Sophia Hiscock's grave, Cann Church, Shaftesbury

The old Cann Church is at the bottom of Salisbury Street. This rectangular grave in the centre is that of my great grandmother Ethel Sophia Hiscock (nee Kelly), wife of Robert. The churchyard overlooks the Blackmore Vale towards St James.

Violet Doris Wareham's (nee Hiscock) grave

This is my nan's grave in Mampitts Road Cemetery in Shaftesbury.

Hiscock grave, East Stour, Dorset

This grave is that of Edwin (died 1889) and Anne Hiscock (died 1880). It is to the right side of the churchyard as you enter the main gate. The plinth behind this grave and just visible in this photo is the memorial of William Hiscock, Edwin's brother (died 1837).

Gray family graves, East Stour, Dorset

The grave on the left is the memorial to Hannah Gray (died 1841, aged 61), husband Francis Rogers Gray (died 1866, aged 77) and their son Nicholas (who was buried in Tisbury and died 1829, aged 11). Their daughter was Anne Gray who married Edwin Hiscock, my x 3 great grandparents. The memorial has a touching epitath to Hannah and describes her as a 'tender wife and mother'. The grave on the right is that of their grandson Francis Rogers Gray who was the son of their son Jasper. the name 'Francis Rogers' came from Francis Rogers Gray's father Francis Rogers, as he was the illegimiate child of that farmer from Tisbury and his servant Dinah Gray, and on my line was passed down to his grandson Francis Rogers Hiscock. Francis Rogers Gray became a wealthy farmer and held a large freehold at High Grove Farm, East Stour, and as is clear from this expensive gravestone.

High Grove Farm, East Stour

This was the farm where Francis Rogers Gray and Hannah Gray (x 4 great grandparents) lived in the early 19th century. Francis was still here in 1851 as a widower. Also recorded in the 1851 census was Francis Rogers Hiscock, his grandson, as well as others Hiscocks. The farmhouse was built in 1620. Francis moved here between 1820 and 1831. In 1820 his last child was baptised at Tisbury whilst by 1831 he was registered to vote as a freeholder at East Stour. He died in 1857.
