As Wiltshire Cabinet Member for
Culture, I have been talking to many
fascinating people across the county,
who are doing wonderful things in the
arts, theatre, music and sport. It
never ceases to amaze me just how much
cultural activity is going on.
My aim is to harness this good work to
help those most in need.
Taking part in a theatre project, for
example, can reach a disaffected young
person in a way than nothing else can,
completely changing the way they see
themselves. As a result, the life of
that young person is set on a totally
different, and altogether better,
path.
For an elderly person, joining a local
handicraft, or physical exercise, group
can help them to stay in their own home
within their local community for as
long as possible.
On the Salisbury cultural scene, many
new faces have arrived over the last
year. I
have met up with the new Director at
Salisbury Arts Centre, the new Chairman
and Director at Salisbury Museum and
the new Executive Director and Artistic
Director at the Playhouse.
These are
all innovative people with bold and
exciting ideas. We are privileged to
have them working in our city and I
look forward to seeing the fruit of
their labour.
Finally, Salisbury Library has recently
opened a new Teen Lounge. It was
launched in December with great
celebration and much loud live music!
If you have not yet seen it, do go and
have a look…
