PLANTING ANEMONES WILD GARLIC AND PRIMROSES
On a cold and very windy day on 27 October 2012, a brave band of volunteers gathered at the bottom of Harnham Slope to plant lots of Anemones, Wild Garlic and a few Primroses in an effort to bring some native cheer and colour to that area of the Slope during the Springs of future years. This page shows the sort of thing they got up to. (Click on thumbnail images to enlarge them).

The Salisbury City Mayor, John Collier, kindly got the afternoon off to a good start by borrowing a trowel and showing how it should be done!

Volunteers formed themselves into groups and were then allocated areas marked out on the ground, in which they had free choice of where to plant.

Groups comprised the whole range of helpers - from the very young, to the not so young. There was no limit on age and every volunteer was welcome and did sterling work.

They say an army marches on its stomach - well FOHS volunteers did a lot of planting on theirs! The Refreshment Team did a sterling job in keeping all well fed and watered.

Unfortunately, the Mayor was not able to stay for the entire planting event. But, before dashing off to his other Mayoral duties that afternoon, he did just have time to check out the quality of refreshments!
