WHAT's ON – May 2012

Thurs 10th May – from 2pm to 4pm – THURSDAY SENIORS' CAFE – in Newton Tony Memorial Hall, SP4 0HF.

Thurs 10th May at 7.30pm Bourne Valley Horticultural Society, at The Glebe Hall, Winterbourne Earls, SP4 6HA – Our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, followed by Indoor Bring & Buy Plant and Cake Sale. This is our major money-spinner for club funds, also your opportunity to buy some bargains. Contact Lynn 01980 610635.

Sat 12th May from 10.30am to 12.30pm – COFFEE MORNING at Bourne Valley Methodist Church, Winterbourne Dauntsey, SP4 6EW. Bring & Buy, Books, Cakes & Plants, Raffle.

Sun 13th May at 2.00pm – PLANT SALE & TEAS at Newton Tony Memorial Hall by Four Villages Horticultural Society. High quality plants for sale, including bedding and vegetables grown by members. Tables full of tempting things and something to interest even the casual gardener. If advice is needed, just ask! As well as the lovely plants, there will be scrummy teas available – all home made. Fri 1st Jun from 10.00am to 11.30am – Bourne Valley Day Centre would love to see you at the MONTHLY TABLE SALE, Methodist Hall, Winterbourne Dauntsey, SP4 6EW. Come along for Lots of Bargains and Gifts. Books, Cakes, Pottery, Bric- a-Brac. Served with coffee and a warm welcome. See you there! Contact Pam 01980 611681.

Sat 2nd Jun – Idmiston Parish DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS at St Nicholas's School, Idmiston. FREE ADMISSION. Scarecrow Trail from 10am onwards. History Quest, Ice Creams & Refreshments. Cash Bar provided by Porton Hotel. Kids Fancy Dress at 5pm. Live Music & Entertainment from 6pm. BBQ & Curry from 6pm. Contact Alan 01980 619098.

Sat 2nd Jun, 12 noon to 5pm – The Amesbury Community Carnival 2012 at the Holders Road Playing Field, Amesbury. Events start at 11am with a Carnival Procession through the town finishing at Holders Road Playing Field. From noon to 5.30pm there will be a Jubilee Carnival & Display at the playing fields, with MAD mountainbike display team, the Essex Dog display team, a fun fair, a car boot sale, games and stands. Entrance £2.50 Adults. Children FREE. 5,000 visitors anticipated. Contact Michele on 07748 988242.

Sat 2nd Jun - The Royal Jubilee at CHOLDERTON. During the afternoon there will be a village picnic with BBQ and games in the cricket field to celebrate the jubilee. This will be followed by a "Royal" Barn Dance in Cholderton Village Hall in the evening.

Sat 2nd Jun at 7pm. Hog Roast and Ceilidh at Pitton Village Hall & field. A celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with dancing to a live Ceilidh Band. Enjoy a superior Hog Roast with salads & delicious puddings. Licensed Bar & Tombola. Tickets: Adult £14, Child (12 years & under) £8. Contact Emden 01980 712780.

Sun 3rd Jun – BIG JUBILEE LUNCH 2012 for Newton Toney Residents, within marquees on the Memorial Hall Recreation Ground. Contact Sandra on 01980 629838.

Sun 3rd Jun, 3pm till late – WINTERBOURNE'S “Big” Event at Winterbourne Cricket Ground. This will be a Jubilee Fun Day to coincide with the main celebration weekend throughout the nation. FREE Admission and FREE Parking. Afternoon Cream Teas, Games for the young (and not so young), including a bouncy castle, rounders, welly wanging, skittles etc, followed by a Ceilidh during the evening with local Folk Band "Scrape the Barrel".

Mon 4th Jun from 2pm – DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS at Hudsons Field organised by Salisbury City Council. A major free family event. There’s going to be a huge variety of local attractions, entertainments, food and crafts and county show style demonstrations throughout the day and into the evening. The day’s celebrations will culminate with a headline act supported by mix of local bands, so there will certainly be something for everyone. Contact Abi Bruford 01722 342862.

Sat 9th Jun at 7.30pm (Doors open 7pm) – Rural Arts performance of "Hunchback of Notre Dame" in Cholderton Village Hall. This one-man show will be performed by Pip Upton, following a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Doors open 7.00pm, performance will commence at 7.30pm. Tickets £7.50 Adult (£6 seniors over 65), £4.50 Child (under 16). Additional charge of £5 for a meal after the performance – we hope you will stay! Also, Cash Bar available. Sun 10th Jun at 8pm (Doors open 7.30pm) – Rural Arts Wiltshire present SHEELANAGIG at Newton Tony Memorial Hall, SP4 0HF. The 5 members of Sheelanagig present their unique blend of Balkan Folk Mayhem which has been a fixture on the festival circuit since they formed in 2005. Equally at home on festival stages, music venues and street corners the band have developed a devoted following with three album releases and a hectic touring schedule. Tues 12th Jun at 7.30pm – Bourne Valley Tuesday Club at Methodist Hall, Winterbourne Dauntsey, SP4 6EW. The River Bourne Community Farm is a community based project creating a 1960’s working farm and it is virtually on our doorstep! Come and learn how this venture has developed into a sustainable farm and how it is involved with education and how it is keeping rural practises like spinning and bee keeping alive. Sat 23rd Jun from 2pm – FETE 2012 at Glebe Field, Winterbourne Earls SP4 6HA. After judging of the Floats at 1.15pm, the Fete procession leaves CBRN Centre Winterbourne Gunner and will travel along the Main Road to reach the Glebe Field at 2pm. Wed 11th Jul at approx 6pm - THE OLYMPIC TORCH will pass through The Winterbournes. The torch will be carried through Amesbury, then will travel in vehicle convoy to Policemans Corner, Winterbourne Gunner. The torch will be carried through The Winterbournes by 3 bearers in succession as far as Summerlug, Winterbourne Earls. The Main Road through Winterbourne will be closed by police whilst the torch is being carried through the village. The torch will then leave in vehicle convoy to London Road Park & Ride, where it will be carried by torchbearers to Hudson's Field, where evening celebrations are planned. Departure time from The Winterbournes is estimated around 6pm.
