Haleloojah Choruses
by Salisbury Community Choir
The Vicar, the Rev Peter
Ostli-East, and St Michael’s PCC were
delighted to welcome 60 members of the
Salisbury Community Choir on Saturday 15
October at St Michael’s church, who
generously gave their time and talents
to perform a special concert in support
of St Michael’s Building Facilities
Fund.
The Choir, directed by Jeremy Backhouse
and accompanied by Organist Malcolm
Hicks, who had kindly stepped in at the
last moment, entertained a large and
appreciative audience with a wide
variety of choral music, commencing with
Handel’s Zadok the Priest and sending
everyone home at the end of the evening
humming songs from ‘The Sound of Music’.
While the Choir caught their breath in
the interval, the audience enjoyed
refreshments, a raffle and time to relax
and chat with friends old and new.
Everyone from the children to the most
senior citizen in the audience greatly
enjoyed an exceptionally entertaining
and happy evening. We plan to hold more
community events at St Michael’s Church.
Bourne Valley Day
Centre needs
your HELP!
Please can you help by driving the
elderly, often housebound, guests to and
from the Bourne Valley Methodist Church
on Fridays, or give the Day
Centre Team assistance in ANY way?
Everyone who goes to the Day Centre
has a great time, guests and helpers
alike. So in this their 30th anniversary
year, please call Pam Hall on 01980
611681 if you can spare some time to
help. You'll be glad you did!
Interested in helping with a PARISH
JUBILEE and/or OLYMPIC 2012 Event?
If so, then the Parish Council and
members of the Glebe Hall Committee are
looking for volunteers to help them
organise a yet-to-be-confirmed event to
celebrate the Jubilee and Olympics in
2012.
The Parish Council has access to £500
worth of funding for such an event and
would like to hear from any member in
the Parish who would be willing to give
a littel of their time - even just a few
hours - along with other volunteers to
help create an event for the Parish to
enjoy in this memorable year.
Whether you can offer ideas, organising
or administration skills, we would like
to hear from you with a view to
organising a small sub-committee.
Please contact the Parish Clerk, Melanie
Thomas on 01980 863802 or email:
winterbournepc@googlemail.com for
further information.

crossroads with Winterslow Road
(including East Gomeldon Road and other
roads in Gomeldon). Also, Idmiston Road

Corner), through
Idmiston and as far as the
junction with the A338 about half a
mile from The Earl of Normanton pub.
The Order came into effect on 3rd May
2010

The Bourne Valley Alliance of
Parish Councils:
What is it?
The BVAPC is an alliance of the five
parishes of the Bourne Valley;
Cholderton, Newton Tony, Allington with
Boscombe, Idmiston and Winterbourne.
It was formed to promote the interests
of the Bourne Valley community (3,569
residents) and to negate Boundary
Commission proposals that the valley be
split into two separate Electoral
Divisions. Whether this succeeds or
not, the BVAPC is an important new
entity which has been publicised in the
Salisbury Journal.
The BVAPC meets at least quarterly and
more often when there are serious
issues to discuss. The composition of
the BVAPC is Chairman or Deputy
Chairman of each of the five member
Parish Councils. The interests and
permanent agenda of the BVAPC encompass
mutual interests in:
The A338, its condition,
traffic flow and safety
The River Bourne and its flood
plain
Education and the Salisbury
Diocese of Churches in the Bourne Valley
Bourne Valley Good Neighbour
Link Scheme, which has provided help
and support for Bourne Valley residents
since 2004
• Bourne Valley Day Centre, which
has met every Friday
to provide a day of social care for the
elderly since 1981
• Bourne Valley Historical
Society, which was formed in 1948 to
record and conserve the history of the
Bourne Valley
• Distribution of funds available
from building works for projects in the
Bourne Valley community
• The newly proposed Bourne
Valley Youth Scheme to help the youth
of the area enjoy the available
amenities within the Bourne
Valley
The current Chairman of the BVAPC is
Mr. Stan Stubbs, from Newton
Tony and the current Winterbourne PC
representative is
David Baker.
