2009 Extra 500 houses planned for Hampton Park

Local Development Framework
Proposals to build an extra 500 houses on the edge of Hampton Park are to be found within the latest version of the Local Development Framework (LDF), which has had a second round of consultation by the District Council following the furore which accompanied the first version.

Local residents get together
A packed public meeting at Greentrees School on 8th October saw heated but well-informed discussion. The general consensus was that we do need some new houses but that 500 is too many and we need to be sure that we are building, not just houses, but a genuine community – sustainable in every way, good to live in and which will protect the character of this local area.

I take action
As your county councillor, I have responded to the consultation, asking for a ‘strategic gap’ between Hampton Park and Ford, change of use for the proposed Retail Park to housing, improved transport links of all types to the city centre, and good community facilities such as schools, a community centre, local shop, green areas, play areas, provision for elderly people and activities for young people.

I will continue to work to get, not just much-needed new houses but a community in which people will want to live and work.
