2007 New Retail Park for Bishopdown Farm

Serious concerns have been raised by the exhibition of plans to build a new Retail Park off the Pearce Way / London Road roundabout.

Local people and councillors met at John Seymour’s home to discuss these. The issues include potential traffic and parking problems, anti-social behaviour, litter and noise, impact on wildlife, and general quality of life.

The overall feeling is that we do not want ‘another Southampton Road’, an unsightly, unattractive and inappropriate gateway to our lovely city.

As a member of the Vision for Salisbury steering group, I am clear that this development runs counter to the aspirations expressed in that Vision.

The planning application will be decided at the City Area Committee, at which Councillors Kevin Cardy and John English have a vote. This means that they cannot express an opinion on this matter as they must take an ‘objective’ view on planning matters. I, as a County Councillor, have no vote at the local Planning Committee but can express the views of local residents and also of the County Council in relation to traffic and parking.

Do please continue to make your views known to your local councillors, and put them in the Comments Book on the excellent website of the Bishopdown Farm Residents Association, www.bfra.info.

Planning is governed by a complex set of rules and regulations but the final decision is made by your local councillors and views of local people do carry great weight.
