2008 promises to be a very interesting year for Salisbury and, indeed, for Wiltshire. Just some of the changes which lie ahead…

Victoria Park - the park has won the first stage of lottery funding for a major ‘revamp’. This first stage pays for a detailed design of the desired improvements, which enables the District Council to bid for money to actually do the work…

Hudsons Field - the Management Plan has now been formally adopted by the City Area Committee, so we should be seeing some improvements here too.

Stratford Community Centre - the plans to regenerate this area, with new affordable housing, were rejected by the Planning Committee, so it’s back to the drawing board…

Salisbury Vision - this is continuing apace, with plans and projects becoming more specific. We should see some of these coming to fruition within a year or so, while others, such as the major change of use for Churchfields, will take much longer. Plans for the Market Place go to the District Council Cabinet for approval this month and, if approved, a Design Competition is planned, with entries to be judged by the end of the year.

One Council for Wiltshire - the County Council and the four District Councils are working hard to ensure that, when the new Council opens for business in May 2009, you, the customer, will receive an excellent service.

This process of becoming one Council will be overseen by Councillors from all 5 authorities - 2 from each District Council (8 in total), and the 8 Cabinet Members and Leader from the County Council. This ‘Implementation Executive’ met informally for the first time on 28th November.

Salisbury City Council - Salisbury is the only part of Wiltshire to have no parish councils. The bid for a Wiltshire unitary included a proposal to set up a Salisbury City Council, which is basically a parish council for a city. The District Council will shortly be asking you for your views. Health and Social Care - with major changes in 2006 in the top management teams of both the Primary Care Trust and at County Hall, there is now a real sense of working together to address the (considerable) challenges facing us. The County Cabinet meet regularly with the non-executive Directors of the PCT to make sure that we join up our services, our plans and our funding.
