April 2011 Salisbury Area Board

… local decisions about local services
Your Board has set priorities for local transport schemes, chosen locations for new grit bins, decided where to reduce unnecessary street lighting and prioritised the areas to consult for Residents Parking schemes.

In the coming months, more decisions about local council services will be made by your Board - here in Salisbury.

…helps fund Community Projects
Since October, the Board has given grants to:

  • Silver Surfers Club in Harnham
  • the Life Education Centre, helping primary school children combat peer pressure and bullying, and avoid alcohol and drug misuse
  • Street Survival Packs for homeless people
  • Rainbow Rooms UK
  • Youth work and a holiday club on the Friary
  • the Salamander project, giving young people a taste of being a fire- fighter.

If you would like to apply for funding for a community group, please contact Marianna Dodd, Salisbury Community Area Manager (t) 07919 881174

… local residents engage with Salisbury Vision
Richard Walters, Director of the Salisbury Vision, gave a presentation to the Area Board on 17th March, on the long-term and strategic aims of the Vision. All present took part in discussions on how we want to see Salisbury in 20 years time and how the Vision project should contribute to that.

...Family Matters
The next Area Board is 12th May at City Hall and the theme is Family. We hope to:

  • Hear from Children’s Centres in Salisbury
  • Learn how we can address child poverty in Bemerton Heath
  • Meet people who go into schools to help young people to explore marriage.

Tea and coffee from 6.30pm, meeting starts 7pm. Do come along and have your say!
