The Allington Churchyard Cleanup

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th August 2008

“Who will help me?”
“I am an Allington resident and have lived in the village for 38 years. I recently visited my husband’s grave and was most upset at the unkempt state of Allington Churchyard”

A fantastic team of volunteers turned up bright and early on the Saturday morning complete with strimmers, mowers, loppers, secateurs, rakes brooms and all other paraphernalia, plus the tea and coffee!

And made good progress at attacking the long grass and overgrown greenery in the churchyard

Unfortunately “rain stopped play” on Saturday afternoon and apart from a few people who seemed to like working in the rain, the project was abandoned for the day

Sunday was much kinder to the team who once again assembled their tools and continued where they left off. Hard graft, sweat, toil (no tears) and a few cuppas later the result was astounding. After everyone’s efforts the Churchyard now looks beautiful and much cared for
