160 glorious years!

Shaftesbury Cricket Club was formed way back before 1850 making it one of the Country's oldest continuous cricket clubs. And, while it may be a venerable institution, the Club is still very much full of life. There is more cricket played in Shaftesbury today than at any time in the Town's long and illustrious history!

Three teams compete every weekend in the Nationwide Sun Awnings Cricket League and the Shaftesbury Convicts compete in the Ranston midweek 20:20 league. In addition the Club runs two colts teams and can only just about cope with demand from the youngsters that are flooding into the sport.

But, running a successful sports club relies on the goodwill and hard work of a small band of dedicated volunteers, who give up time and hard earned cash to keep things running. That is why fund raising events like our annual quiz are so important - and why we are so grateful for the continued support of the local community.

The Club has just completed a brand new pavilion with bar and large function room all finished to a superb standard - the envy of most Dorset Clubs. The Club is indebted to the Town Council who funded a large proportion of the costs, but also to the members who have rallied round, called in favours, lugged barrows and wielded brushes - it has been a hard slog. Thankfully, the redevelopment project is now over and we can look forward to raising money for cricket - for equipment such as screens, covers, scoreboards, mowers, tables, chairs - the list is endless.

Thanks to our (ever improving) fundraising evenings the Club can raise enough money to meet its every growing bills and to build on a proud tradition of 150 years of cricket in Shaftesbury!
