RETIRED VILLAGERS SUMMER LUNCH (with Christmas touches) This lunch, deferred from December, was a very enjoyable occasion on which we were joined by the Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Brian Dalton, and his daughters, Darcey and Letitia who were welcomed by Barry Pritchard and Janice Ford. Sally Truman saw lunchers into the Village Hall where they were served with pre-lunch drinks by Sue Pritchard and Barbara Lowe, and bought raffle tickets from Terry Moore for a selection of attractive prizes. After Malcolm Read has said Grace, the Mayor and his daughters led the serving of lunch. Sue and Barbara served wine during the meal and Peter Ford took the photographs. Martyn Fry cooked the turkey, and made mince pies which were enjoyed with tea and coffee at the end of the lunch when the raffle was drawn. The Mayor spoke about his appeal – the provision of accommodation at Salisbury District Hospital for the parents and relatives of seriously premature and sick babies – after which Barry presented him with a donation from the Village Hall Committee, and Terry and Barbara presented Darcey and Letitia each with a bouquet of flowers. The food for the lunch was prepared and donated by Prue Castle, Angela Christie, Helen Birchenough, Sally Truman, Sheila Futcher and Janice Ford. The Village Hall was decorated with bunting and balloons, and the tables set with Christmas napery. May we say a big Thank You to the Mayor, Darcey and Letitia, Barry, Sue, Sally, Barbara, Terry, Martyn, Malcolm, Prue, Angela, Helen, Sheila, Peter and Janice, all those who helped set up and clear away, and of course all the lunchers. We had a wonderful time.
