Jess McNally, Jeremy Spurr and Paul Tunnicliffe put bunting up at the top of Chapel Hill, Paul and Jeremy set up the public address system and music, road closure signs made by Jeremy were put in place, over 100 red, white and blue balloons were brought from The Rectory by John and Alex Mansell, barbecues were wheeled out, lit and manned by Arthur King and Diana McNally, and tables were brought down from the Village Hall by Tony Henbest. The competitions included Pin the Tail on the Donkey won by Andy Pennington; Guess the Kings and Queens of England – tied winners the Syndicate of Toffs and Ollie Spurr; Ball in the Bucket won by Malik Dem; Best Decorated House won by Debbie Fenlon and Jeremy Spurr, 2nd Michael and Cilla Fanner, 3rd John and Alex Mansell; and the children’s fancy dress won by Emily Tunnicliffe, Harry Cunningham and Thomas Cunningham. Gwynneth Doran presented a medal to 8- year old Robert Pennington for being such an excellent marshal. Everyone brought food and drink for the party which was shared by all. Katherine Mann had baked 150 cupcakes, decorated with red, white and blue icing, which she formed into a magnificent Union Jack cake and so many people brought raffle prizes that the table in Jess and Diana’s garden was completely covered. Grimstead Parish Council donated commemorative mugs to each child of primary school age and under in West and East Grimstead which were distributed by Maria Pennington, and throughout the afternoon, Peter Ford took photographs. The Street Party Group – Debbie Fenlon, Maria Pennington, Diana McNally, Gwynneth Doran, Christina Tailby, Janice Ford and Cilla Fanner would like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes, helped set up and clear away, and came and joined in the fun. You all made it a day to remember!
