John Maddocks Jazz Men - 10th February 2017

What an absolutely terrific evening we had with the JMJM. Sadly Peter Wilkinson was unwell but at short notice Tom Connor stepped in. New to the club he soon showed us what a super trumpet player he is - hope to see him again sometime.

It was almost a full house for this event and great to see so many dancers - all styles including some great Balboa!

Doc Houlind Revival Allstars - 10th March 2017

Another fabulous night at the club - the Danish band played to a packed house and at the end of the evening the audience still wanted more. Hopefully Doc will be back next year.

Savannah Jazz Band - 14th April 2017

Pictured here are John (right) with partner Vera, and his son Vince and daughter-in-law Helen who were visiting from Australia. And what a night they chose to come to jazz club - another full house but I have never seen so many dancers on the floor for the first number. It didn't stop there either because the band played so much that was danceable and those who prefer to sit and listen were kept happy too.

John Shillito Band - 12th May 2017

John Shillito, a fine trumpet player, has been leading his own band for 50 years. Alongside him on 12th were the multi-talented John Wurr on clarinet & saxes and Bobby Fox on trombone. Many years ago Bobby played with Salisbury's local band, the Bourbon Street Six, and it was my first visit to hear them in 1962 that started me on my jazz journey.

John Shillito Band - 12th May 2017

The back line consisted of Ken Ames on banjo & guitar, who was once a member of the Ken Colyer band; the debonnaire Richie Bryant, who provided the beat behind Acker Bilk for so many years; and Pete Furnish on double bass.

New Orleans Z'Hulus - 9th June 2017

Top class musicians from Belgium, France & the UK entertained us this evening.

Bassist Brian Turnock (UK/Belgium) celebrated his birthday and received a card on behalf of the club.

Brian was joined on stage (well, that's what we call it!) by Dan Vercruysse (Belgium) trumpet; Michel “Boss” Queroud (France) clarinet; Paul Sealey (UK) banjo; Emile Martyn (UK/USA) drums; Philippe De Smet (Belgium) trombone & vocals.

A different style of jazz but appreciated by the large audience.

Sussex Jazz Kings - 14th July 2017

The SJK's were dressed ready to help us celebrate summer and played to another full house.

Golden Eagle Jazz Band - 11th August 2017

In spite of it being holiday time another large audience visited the club in August to see Kevin and his very popular band.

Steve Graham was the guest trumpet player, regular Mike Scroxton sadly having left the band earlier this year.

The amazing Malc Murphy is now the band's permanent drummer.

New Orleans Jazz Bandits - 13th October 2017

What a band! Great to listen to, great to dance to. Superb evening of top quality jazz from Ron Rumbol - reeds, Allen Beachey - trumpet, Tom Whittingham - trombone, Peter Brooks - string bass, Malc Murphy - drums and Tim Wake - banjo. We will look forward to hearing them again.

SUSSEX JAZZ KINGS - 8th December 2017

What a night! Trumpet legend Cuff Billett replaced band leader Dave Stradwick who unfortunately was not well enough to play.

Pete Lay led the band from the back line and called all the right tunes to keep the festive audience happy. We also had a super brolly parade and a magnificent raffle. Thanks to everyone for making this probably our best Xmas party ever!
