Expert gardening tips

This section is kindly written by our anonymous but rather expert gardener.

March/April is a time for planning your garden and preparation for the comming summer. Sit quietly and decide any changes to borders or lawn area as the ground should be firm enough to create new edges without causing too much damage.

Dig over your earthed area's mixing in your compost, be it manure, commercially bought products or hopefully you followed last year's advice and have some of your own compost to hand.

Lawns can be given a trim providing your mower is set to a high cut and if you have a roller you can flatten all the worm tracks that rise to the surface.

Bedding plants should be in your Greenhouse or Cold Frame as we may still encounter frosts. If your using a Cold Frame pehaps newspaper over the plants at night if a frost is apparent.

Its a good time to work in the garden because you know that you can retire to the house as the temperature drops and enjoy a glass of wine while admiring your handywork. Greenfingers.
