Local RNLI runs Painting Competition for under 16 year olds To coincide with the RNLI Mayday fund raising campaign, which runs for the whole of May, Salisbury, Wilton and District Branch have launched a painting competition for local children this week. “We have had to put all our normal fund raising on hold for the moment” says local branch Chairman, Ray Stedman, “so we thought it would be good to organise a painting competition to help keep children amused in these difficult times”. The competition runs until 18th May and there are classes for different ages. Ray continued “the theme is anything to do with the great work that the RNLI does saving lives at sea and on our beaches. The brave crews are still on call 24/7 and the station we particularly support at Mudeford has been on shouts already during this quarantine period” For details of the competition and entry forms please email Ray at rnliwilton@gmail.com. it is free to
enter and there are prizes, including a visit to the Mudeford station for the winners when travel restrictions are lifted. “We are delighted that the Earl and Countess of Pembroke have offered to judge the paintings” said Ray. The RNLI are running a home schooling programme called Water Safety Wednesday for young children. It is live at 10.15 every Wednesday on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RNLI and runs for 15 minutes, it is also downloadable. “We have included links to this and various other RNLI resources to give entrants inspiration. Preventing accidents on the water is a vital part of the RNLI’s work and we hope our painting competition is going to help children learn essential and lifesaving water safety by developing an interest in the work of the Lifeguards and Lifeboat crews” says Ray.
