Introduction

Salisbury District Council has 4 Area Committees – City Area, Northern Area, Southern Area and Western Area. The purpose of these committees is to allow decisions to be made that are as close to the communities they represent as possible and to bring together all tiers of local government (County Councillors, District Councillors and Parish Councillors).

An Area Committee is made up of the District Councillors representing each ward in the respective area, any County Councillors who represent any or part ward/parish in each Area, Parish Councillors and if applicable a representative from a Tenants Panel.

Role of Parish Council

  1. One representative from each Parish
  2. speak on local community matters or matters affecting the whole area
  3. speak on planning applications that affect their parish
  4. vote on certain matters e.g. consultation
  5. submit agenda items

Role of County Councillors

  1. submit agenda items
  2. speak on all issues
  3. vote on certain items

Role of District Councillors

  1. submit agenda items
  2. speak on all issues
  3. vote on all items
