Southwick By Election

A picture for Unitary By Election

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT. Happily there is to be a by Election rather than a Co-option process at Southwick Division, of our Unitary Authority on September 3rd. 2009. The Vacancy arose from the untimely death of the recently elected Conservative Councillor.

The seat is to be fought for the Conservatives by one David Edward Halik who is currently a Trowbridge Central Town Councillor, and is contested for the Liberal Democrats by one Gordon Ian King, and too by an Independent Francis Morland, also a UKIP. Candidate. One trusts the latter candidature doesn’t ‘Queer the Pitch’ as the saying goes, as he is seemingly a Resident of Salisbury SP1. The Labour Party isn’t fielding a candidate.

Councillor Halik contested the Trowbridge Adcroft Division for the Conservative Party last June and received 29.3% of the Poll, whilst the Liberal Democrats obtained 34.5% and the Elected Independent had 35.6% of it. It will be interesting to see what happens in Southwick this time. At the June 2009 Election the long established , late Councillor Tony Phillips OBE won the seat with 807 votes against the Liberal Democrat David Lovell who obtained 522 Votes.

WHAT A SHAME THAT THE TISBURY AREA IS SO LETHARGIC CONCERNING ITS GOVERNANCE.
for In TROWBRIDGE even the Local Town Council Elections are ferociously contested.

- We West Wilts. Locals however have been invited to a Meeting of the WEST WILTS. AREA BOARD at The Nadder Hall. 7pm. 16th September 2009. One understands there will be every opportunity for members of the Public to have their say.
