Whats On

English Folk dancing has been recorded as a club activity in Salisbury since 1945 but the present club was re- started in 1976 at the Youth Theatre, St. Paul's Roundabout. Our present venue is St Martins School, Shady Bower where we meet during term time every Tuesday evening from 7.30 to 10.00. We have no age barriers, but most of our members are between 50 and 70 and form a group of 62 members. Our average attendence on Tuesday evenings is 37.

We meet for the pleasure of listening and dancing to Traditional and Modern English folk dance music but also dance American contras, a bit of Scottish and various other styles. Membership costs £5 per year, and evenings cost £3 which includes refreshments. If you fancy light exercise, good music, pleasant company and something a bit different why not give us a try? First evenings for newcomers are free so you have nothing to loose.

In the English folk dance club tradition all the dances are walked through before dancing them and a "caller" gives the instructions also as the dance progresses. Our regular caller is David Tullis who is assisted by other club callers so that on a normal Tuesday two different callers are on hand. Once a month we have a visiting Guest Caller from another club to add variety to our programme. Details of these callers and more information can be obtained by visiting www.salisburyfolkdance.org.uk
