Whats On

The Society was founded in August 1987 and meets on the first Monday of each month in Laverstock and Ford Village Hall. Our meetings consist of talks and demonstrations by experts and we have the occasional outing to places of specific interest. In July we shall have a stand at the Salisbury Show in Hudsons Field - come and visit us! The aim of the Society is to promote further interest in the ancient art of bonsai, which literally means to grow something in a shallow container.

Bonsai can be created from almost any native British tree as well as many of those found at local nurseries. Members are encouraged to try their hand at creating "instant bonsai" from nursery stock and thus prove that the hobby need not be an expensive one. No special tools or knowledge are required.

We have a small library of bonsai books and videos which are available on loan for a small fee, and also a sales table at all meetings offering bonsai wire, plants, pots etc. You will be most welcome at any meeting Programme for the year 2005: 3 January Slides of Japan. 7 February Repotting. 7 March Root over rock. 4 April Yew - collection to refinement. 1 May Visit to Leonardslee Gardens. 6 June Bonsai from nursery stock. 4 July Group bonsai design. 1 August Workshop. 5 September Japanese Courtyard Gardening. 3 October Slab planting. 7 November AGM.
