God Bless Harry England and St. George

A picture for Prince Harry Blues

HARRY ENGLAND AND ST.GEORGE.

Its good to have Prince Harry Home safe and sound. It will be even better when all our Service men and women can also return home safe and sound. The Prince was the first to comment that he is no sort of a Hero, and to point out that others on the Plane were returning home on Stretchers.

Career prospects for members of the Royal Family are somewhat limited. Princes William and Harry are but the last two of the family to join the Armed Services. His Father, Uncles, and his Great Uncle and Cousins waved the Flag appropriately, and even the Ladies in their midst sport some very Decorative Uniforms.

The attitude of the National Media seems little short Patronising concerning Prince Harry .Its
‘Hasn’t the lad done well ’
May be appropriate enough when used in connection with Bruce Forsythe, but is nothing short of being obsequiously patronising when used to single out an individual member of the Armed Services.

One heard on the Wireless today of an alleged Recruitment Crises, so severe that even staffing Recruitment Offices in some places has become a problem. Quite clearly Government might call in Recruitment Consultants to do that job for them.

A proportion of those ‘signed up’ tend to drop out of the Services after initial ‘Training’. ‘Cannon Fodder’ is now better educated, other jobs are available, and maybe the old Battle Cry of ‘Queen and Country’ is less convincing than it was. Recent Civic Honour accorded to returning Service Men, seemed to many who lined the Route of their March Past, more of an expression of regret that the Government which ‘we’ elected, sent them on such a Fool’s Errand , in our name.

Fool’s errand or not the least Government can do is to see that our fighting Forces are properly equipped when sent to war, and that all those left impaired whether physically or mentally are properly treated when they return. Is this what is referred to as the ‘Military Covenant’? Primarily Treatment is far more important than Cash, but there is a moral obligation to stand by, both them and their Dependants.

For Johnny a poem by John Pudney

Do not despair
For Johnny-head-in-air;
He sleeps as sound
As Johnny underground.
Fetch out no shroud
For Johnny-in-the-cloud;
And keep your tears
For him in after years.
Better by far
For Johnny-the-bright-star,
To keep your head,
And see his children fed.
Quotation Popularised in the ‘The Way to The Stars’ a Post war film which concerned the RAF, but
‘To keep your head and see his children fed’
Seems equally important sixty years on.
