About Cllr Ian West

Ian was born in Winterbourne Stoke in the pub (not in the bar) and went to school in Shrewton and Wilton. He served a five year apprenticeship in Industrial plant and Agricultural engineering and went on to work for the MOD at Boscombe Down as an engineer.

He became a parish councillor at the age of twenty one and has been involved in local politics since then. He joined the Lib Dems in 1974 and has played an active part in their success in the Salisbury area.

Ian’s role as County Councillor and District Councillor has given him a unique insight into the concerns and wishes of his local constituents and has enabled him to be involved in many high profile campaigns.

The Stonehenge A303 Improvement scheme provided Ian with the ideal platform to represent his local constituents and their concerns. The scheme came to an abrupt end due to costs.

Ian is currently involved putting pressure on the Highway Agency to provide a pedestrian crossing in his beloved village which is expected to start in the financial year 2009/10
