Welcome to the Downton Buildings Archive website.

Downton is a large English village located in the Avon valley, on the border between Wiltshire and Hampshire, six miles south of Salisbury. The aim of this site is to record as much information about the buildings and other physical features located within the modern Parish of Downton as possible.

This site is operated with the agreement of the Downton Museum and Archive, which aims to record, preserve and exhibit various aspects and artefacts of village history. Please contact me if you would like more information about the project.

I somehow managed to wipe out the original page of resources that I had put on this site, they included the books by David Waymouth (7000 Years In An English Village) and Ed Green (Downton And The First World War) and a ton of other stuff. From memory, individuals who had contributed included: Ros Bennett; Judi Brown; Richard Brown; Brian Butcher; Mr and Mrs Coffin; Chris Deverell; Mr and Mrs Gilbert; Ed Green; Frank Grenfell; Elaine Milton; Diana Nash; Roy 'Nobby' Nash; Larry Phillips; Sue Stanley; John Taylor; Roger Yeats. Please let me know if I have missed you out!

Please note that the information posted on this site has been obtained from a number of sources and has been reproduced in good faith. It has no legal basis and should not therefore be relied on in the event of any legal disputes regarding property!
