Downton is a large English village located in the Avon valley, on the border between Wiltshire and Hampshire, six miles south of Salisbury. The aim of this site is to record as much information about the buildings and other physical features located within the modern Parish of Downton as possible. More scans of pictures and other items will be posted when I have the time!
I would be keen to hear from Downtonians old and new, historians or buildings enthusiasts who may have information, material, photographs, stories – anything of interest really about the items listed. This site was launched in June 2008 with the limited information to hand at the time, I know there is plenty more out there and I need your help! Please e- mail me on richard.nashdrc@btopenworld.com if you have any additions, corrections or comments.
This site is operated with the agreement of the Downton Museum and
Archive, which aims to record, preserve and exhibit various aspects and artefacts of village history. Please contact me if you would like more information about the project.
