Archaeology has become a well- established subject. Industrial Archaeology came onto the scene in the later 1950s. A body of pioneers brought to the public conscience the fact that our proud industrial heritage was being destroyed by changes in society and technological advances to the extent that soon no trace or record would be left for future generations. SWIAS currently has about 50 members. We run a series of winter meetings at the Salisbury Cycle and Social Club in Salt Lane Salisbury. The aims of the society are still the same as when it was set up; that is, to record our industrial heritage and to try and preserve examples of what still exists. We have a strong record in producing monographs and papers on many and varied subjects.LATEST NEWS: on 12th March 2009 committee members attended a meeting with the Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum in The Close to discuss their ideas on closer co-
operation between the Museum and local societies. The committee are considering the possibilities.
