SUMMER 2008 TRIP

We had a very good trip, on 24 June, to see the tender tug Calshot in Southampton Docks which was kindly organized by Colin Blackaby, a member of SWIAS and also one of the volunteers renovating the Calshot. We not only inspected the tug and the work done but also were able to witness one of the diesel engines running - very impressive.

Over lunch the tone was lightened by tales of the ghosts that still inhabit the boat . In distinct contrast to the usual public tours of historic boats, there were no out- of-bounds areas. We all left impressed by the work already done and overawed at the tasks still to be done to bring the tug back to mint condition.
