The Craft & Produce Show 2009STUNNING SHOWCASE FOR WI TALENTS
A stunning showcase for the talents of our WI is how one member described the September meeting in the Methodist Hall Shrewton. The hall was packed with the finest examples of cookery, preserves, craft work, flower arranging and produce. To add to the fun some wonderful photos and highly amusing limericks were on show to be judged. Usually held in larger venues and as an additional biennial meeting, the show this year was part of our 12 monthly programme and added to the interest and variety of meetings that we enjoy throughout the year. It is always difficult to compete with the best and this year was no exception, but the quality of all the exhibits was very high. Most members used their skill or creativity to participate. Winners were: Shirley Pitman (overall winner on points), Jane Baxter (Joyce Lovell cup for the best piece of craft in show), June Morris (Pauline Beighton
cup, awarded this year for a lemon drizzle cake). Group winners were Anne Woodman and Jane Baxter (joint arts and craft winners), Judy Phillips (cookery), Mary Ruck (cookery – preserves), Shirley Pitman (flower arranging group and produce group) and Jo Pearson (miscellaneous). The most items were entered by Elizabeth Nielsen – very brave, as she had had a fall that morning and broken a bone in her hand!
