Candles from Beeswax
|
Candles are beautiful and they make wonderful, personal gifts. Candle making is also an additional way of using surplus wax. The main types of beeswax candle are rolled, moulded and dipped. If you prefer colourful candles, rolled are the ones for you. If you like detailed candles, then moulded is the way to go. But for those of you that like elegace in its simplest form, dipped would be more your type.

1.Find yourself some sheet wax and some 1/2 inch wick from your local beekeeping supplier. It is very important that you have the right sized wick. Our local supplier is Stockbridge Beekeeping - www.stockbridgebees.co.uk

2. Bring the wax up to just above room temperature, but DO NOT heat over a radiator or with a hair drier. It is extremely important that you warm the wax up because otherwise it will crack when you roll it.
3. Cut the wick to length. Make sure that the wick is as long as the side that is going to be verticle with at least 2 inches/5 cms to spare. Don't forget that you will be able to trim the wick after you have finished the candle.
4. Lay out the wax on a clean, flat surface and place the wick at one end with the spare 2 inches/5 cms poking over the top of the wax.
5. Fold the edge of the wax sheet over the wick. Start to roll the sheet around the wick, keeping the roll as tight as possible and also keeping the edges as level as possible.
