Wareham family pictures

Pictures of people and places connected to the Wareham family. Also refer to Hiscock link for some associated pictures.

Iwerne Courtney (Shroton) Church, Dorset

The Wareham family lived in Shroton from at least 1694 until the late 19th century and this was their village church.

St Mary's

Mark Wareham in 2001

This is a photograph of myself taken in 2001 at the top of Gold Hill, Shaftesbury and you can just make out the beautiful Blackmore Vale backdrop in the distance.

Rodney and Mark Wareham

Father and son on Westminster Bridge in November 2004. My dad is more common height for a Wareham, whilst I tower above him. I think I get my height through my mother's side from her grandmother's family who were tall and my cousins on that side are both also over 6 foot tall.

The Cross, Shroton

The Wareham family lived near here in the late 19th century. They are recorded living 'near the Cross' in 1881 and in 'Cross Cottages' in 1891. The village of Shroton was my Wareham family's home for at least 200 years by the 1890's. See also Wareham pics two for another picture of the area.

Sidney Wareham in World War Two

My grandfather in his RAF uniform. The picture on the left is at the beginning of his enlistment in 1940. On the right is a few years later and I believe during his time in India with the RAF 89th Squadron.

Sidney and Celia Wareham

My grandfather in 1969 with his daughter Celia and grandson Brian.

Walter George Wareham

My great grandfather in a greenhouse I believe at Coombe House. Walter died in 1945 just short of his 80th birthday after contracting blood poisoning whilst at work.

Walter Wareham at Coombe House

My great grandfather is the chap with the cap and is pictured here with the Wormald family who owned Coombe House when it was a hotel.

Harriet Wareham

My great grandmother, Walter's wife, Harriet Wareham (nee Stainer).

Frank and George Wareham

Two brothers, my great uncles, on the left is George and on the right is Frank. This picture was, I believe, taken when the two met each other in Java during the war. George was with the Dorset Regiment (you can just make out the cross keys divisional badge of the 2nd Dorsets on his sleeve) and Frank was with the RAF Regiment.

George Wareham

Another (later) picture of George Wareham with the light brown and shorts worn by the Dorsetshire Regiment in the far east.

Landsley Cottage, Coombe, Wiltshire

The house at the top of the photo was where Walter and Harriet Wareham lived whilst Walter worked at Coombe House. It is just inside the Wiltshire border on the eastern outskirts of Shaftesbury in Dorset. I think this photo was taken in the 1930's. A generation of Wareham children were born and raised in the cottage. The area has changed alot in recent years with the removal of alot of the trees and the buidling of a garage on the A30 road near to the entrance of what is now St Mary's School.
